Mat Pilates is based on the original exercises Joseph Pilates developed to strengthen his own body as a very young man and then began teaching others. The Mat work came before any of the Pilates Apparatus (equipment) he developed. It includes over 500 exercises!
Mat work is a great choice for everyone from Pilates beginners to advanced students because the exercises not only can build in difficulty, but every exercise can be modified to decrease or increase the level of challenge for any age, body, or fitness level.
Expect a dynamic full body workout that will get your heart rate up with elements of Barre and yoga too. We will focus on alignment, breath and strength. You'll develop a firm, strong and more flexible body. As you progress in your practice you will notice improvements in breathing, focus, stress management, and body awareness.

Booking Details:
- Six week course. Classes are 1 hour long.
- Venue: Redeemer Family Resource Centre, Ard Easmuinn, Dundalk.
- Fee: €65, payment is required in advance to secure a place.
- Suitable for beginners. Previous Pilates experience is not a requirement.
- Spaces fill very quickly, so book in as early as possible.
- You need to bring your own mat.
Are there any contraindications or health risks?
Normal common sense contraindications apply: if you’re reeling from a virus, have just broken a bone, sprained a joint, or undergone surgery, I recommend you stay home and prioritise rest and healing. Beyond that, feel free to get in touch if you have any questions regarding a condition you have. When you come to class I invite you to tell me what injuries, aches and pains might be currently activated as that helps me to tailor my assistance to you.
Meet Emma:
Hi, I am Emma McAtasney, a Personal Trainer since 2009. I earned my Pilates credentials through BASI Pilates, a highly respected college-level Pilates teacher training programme which aim is to create and maintain professional standards for the teaching of the Pilates Method to the highest calibre.
In addition, I hold the BASI Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies Certification, a Physical Therapy approach to working with clients who have injuries, physical limitations, or movement dysfunctions. I am also a NCEHS personal trainer and Precision Nutrition Coach.
I teach private clients at my studio in Dundalk, and I also run a weekly group class at my local community centre.
