You need to bring your own mat.

Taught by a comprehensively trained Pilates BASI Pilates Instructor. Mat work is a great choice for everyone from Pilates beginners to advanced students because the exercises not only can build in difficulty, but every exercise can be modified to decrease or increase the level of challenge for any age, body, or fitness level.

The stretchy Pilates bands are one of my favourite additions to the mat class as they recreate the spring system of the Pilates reformer in the matwork class. Just like the reformer does an excellent job of making exercises more difficult, they also make exercises more achievable and effective for your body.

These are so versatile, they not only deepen your stretches but also provide resistance to enhance muscular strength, improve joint mobility and transform many movements into full body exercises.

So if you are new to Pilates, returning to the method or an experienced practitioner, incorporating these bands brings some of the apparatus benefits to you on your mat! So if you want to build strength, flexibility or simply unwind and destress, this class has something for everyone!

What is Barre Sculpt?
Barre Sculpt is a hybrid workout class - combining the grace and discipline of ballet and Pilates with the power of strength and conditioning, it's the perfect way to build muscle while increasing your flexibility and mobility.

But the real difference between barre and other workouts are the isometric movements you usually perform - you'll find yourself doing lots of moves that involve pulses and holds. Barre focuses on engaging specific muscles until they reach fatigue, followed by stretching to create lithe, toned muscles. Think moves like planks, squat holds, plié holds and supermans.

My 1 hour class begins with a warm up, then onto Barre work, to focus on legs and your glutes. Then we use resistance bands and light hand weights to build upper body strength and to help build muscle. Then end on the mat to target your core, before a stretch to cool-down.

Thursdays 8:15pm, Classes are 1 hour long.
Venue: Redeemer Family Resource Centre, Ard Easmuinn, Dundalk.
€65 for six week course.
Payment is required in advance to secure a place. Spaces will fill very quickly, so book in as early as possible.
Suitable for beginners. Previous Pilates or Barre experience is not a requirement.
